C. juttae var ternatus being the easiest and relatively inexpensive to obtain.  Other members of the genus can be found rarely and can quite expensive to purchase, uter and hardyi being the holy grail for any collector. This is a nice, young specimen.  They can obtain massive proportions in the wild.  It just started flowering the first week of July.  The individual flowers are rather short-lived (1-2 days), but there are many buds, and I am rewarded with new flowers nearly every day.  If given room in a relatively large container, it will grow quickly.  The large, tuberous, root system and caudex often displayed in bonsai shows is buried, for the most part. 1st pony tail has produced 4 large seed pods each containing thousands of seeds.<br />
2nd pony tail has produced 12 large flowering heads that attract the bees until all the flowers drop.<br />

This one has a below-ground offset and the &quot;pregnancy&quot; on the side.  These are quite easily propagated but in my experience if the side bulbs are picked too soon they can take up to 6 months to show growth.  I wait until they show a leaf while they are still attached to the parent plant before removal.  The biggest problem I have with the plant is browning of the leaf tips.  This plant regularly...<br />
