I think they call those Whoppers here in England J. Lol. I just enlarged the photo to get a good look at the leaves and I must say, they are in amazing condition and especially after the April we have just had. You must be very pleased.
@Jaybee63 Colossal even and beautiful condition! I picked up Attaryi last year from Batsford but it’s only about 2foot tall..larger leaves than any other Japonicum I have but not as big as yours yet.. How large is your tree? Can you imagine the overall impact of a 13ft tall Attaryi in the Autumn!!!!
Only picked it up last gear as a 1 year graft, it’s now around 30” tall. Great autumn colour, but right now all the leaves are massive and perfect.
FWIW, I've seen larger leaves (~30 cm across) on Acer macrophyllum, if you're looking for outsize maple leaves ;-)
Indeed. This one is close to two feet across. I apologize for going a bit off topic, but I find it fascinating how leaf sizes reduce when keeping maples (and many other species) small. The white ring in the above photo is the rim of a small pot with an acer macrophyllum that I've raised from seed. IIRC, this is its 6th year. I doubt it is @Jaybee63's cup of tea [sic], but I think it would be fun to root a cutting and see if "Attaryi" behaves like every other maple species with which I am familiar.
