Acer palmatum 'Ariadne'

24th September 2020 and Autumn has really hit home quickly. Cold nights and lots of rain already. But raindrops on colourful leaves is why Autumn is a favorite for so many of us Maple enthusiasts.

 

27th September 2020 and bright Autumnal sunshine brings the best out of maple leaves. Ariadne glows in these conditions.

 

1st October 2020 and the colours are coming. Plus of course with this crazy year, new growth. So much rain overnight that brought out the best on my Aridane.

 

10th October 2020 and the days are getting noticeably a lot shorter now, which means more colour. Along with cold starts the maples now come into their own.

 

14th October 2020 and I feel very fortunate to have this colour on my Ariadne, after hearing so many other members on the forum stating theirs have dropped their leaves.

27th April 2021, this time last year my Ariadne was in full Spring leaf, but this year due to the constant very cold overnight weather, it is only just starting.

Thanks Luke, btw was it close to the one you wanted ID for yesterday? My photo from April 2020 looked so similar to that photo of yours leafing out.

 

A couple more days, perhaps a week before it has unfurled enough to start this debate actually.

Ariadne is one of my all time favorites. Wonderful reticulated leaves and varying color throughout the season. Just the right size for a small garden.

 

I am in full agreement Sam about being a favourite, as it's mine also. This cultivar has everything IMO.

Mine has pride of place in a pot next to our patio. And it's not going anywhere.... a fantastic cultivar.

 

Yes, indeed. Mine was mostly green all last year. Now it's a delightful amber color.

 

Yours is looking amazing J, and I agree that a different year a different colour with this one. Even though we are in different continents mine is going the same way. Very strange!! But I think 2021 colour is the best.

 

10th May 2021 and at last my Ariadne has leafed out. Around a month later than last year due to the coldest April in over 60 years and the driest on record. I'm so pleased to see my favourite maple.
