Glad to see another fan of the white feather hosta in this forum @Acerholic
Isn't it just the best with Ghost maples @stg.
I just bought uncle ghost from a local nursery this spring in Toronto. 150 CAD and it is more than 6 feet tall in a 5-gallon pot.
this Japanese maple stands out from other popular cultivars like Bloodgood and Emporor1 because of its bright red color.
Not sure how hardy this tree can be, Toronto is a zone 5 area, but last winter is really cold. I guess I will wrap some burlap for the first few winters.
Good afternoon Brad and welcome to the maples forum. A lovely maple, but are you sure it's not Purple Ghost ? But looking again, yes Uncle Ghost it is, lol.
It will need some protection in Zone 5 over Winter IMO.
thanks Derek, I asked the seller and he said it is uncle ghost. I will post more pics when summer progress.
I will definitely do some protection, and let's see if it can survive the winter in Toronto.
this is what leaves of purple ghost look like in my local nursery.
The color is not as pink as uncle ghost, with more dark purple color and some bottom leaves turn green (I guess not enough direct sun)
In the nursery, I can see many top leaves of purple ghost trees showing white edges ( is it a disease or a sign of wilt?)
And my newly planted uncle ghost also has a similar issue.
However, when I look at the Bloodgood or other common cultivars, I didn't see such an issue.
Is it particular to the ghost series, and shall I do something about it?
This is from lack of water getting to the tip of the leaves from immature or not strong roots. Nothing to worry about IMO.
Uncle Ghost leaves in Late May look so beautiful with the clear blue sky
9th November 2022 and some strange colours on my Uncle Ghost this Autumn. But what a strange year for all plants.
red peachy leaves at the end of October.
