I have heavy clay soil and an interest in planting some Blue Spruce. Is this soil compatible with the tree? If not, any other coniferous suggestions?
It may well depend on the clay. I have found that it grows fairly well in "clay" soil. But if your soil is the "heavy" clay that's considered "massive" with not much of a soil structure, I've seen them blow over, or lean over a lot. There is clay soil that crumbles as it dries or is slightly moist, and then there is the denser clay which does not really crumble.
