Blue Spruce and clay soil?

I have heavy clay soil and an interest in planting some Blue Spruce. Is this soil compatible with the tree? If not, any other coniferous suggestions?

 

We have a high clay content in our soil and blue spruce do wonderfully here. Hope this helps.

It may well depend on the clay. I have found that it grows fairly well in "clay" soil.

But if your soil is the "heavy" clay that's considered "massive" with not much of a soil structure, I've seen them blow over, or lean over a lot.

There is clay soil that crumbles as it dries or is slightly moist, and then there is the denser clay which does not really crumble.
