http://news.yahoo.com/britains-rarest-spider-moves-home-093202934.html Both Eresus cinnaberinus and Eresus sandaliatus are referred to as 'ladybird spider'. http://www.tizznews.com/science/rare-spiders-have-been-released-into-the-wild-886.html
Generally speaking I dislike spiders on some instinctive level but this one, dare I say, is rather attractive.
Agreed! As spiders go, these guys are 'Aww!'-inspiring. Thought that the water-bottle idea was a good one. Practical and simple, and undoubtedly the inspiration of one of the intrepid folk who in fact care for these spiders. Fraction of the cost of some government-requisitioned tub that would not have worked nearly so well. Am sure that the cute factor helped at fundraising time! Was interested to read that the Arne Reserve has 240 spider spp. (!!!) Perhaps you should forgo the Dorset vacation this year, J-k! :-)
