Welcome, @PurpleCat. 'Shogetsu' looks like a pretty good bet, particularly if the flowers are hanging on long stems. There are some other rare cultivars that have white flowers, but you're not going to get a more accurate ID without some close-ups of the flowers.

Thank you, Wendy! I know. I was so tempted to knock at the homeowner's door so that I can get a close-up photo, but they might think I'm weird for doing that :)

That's how 'Choshu-hizakura' got into our book. I knocked on the door and the owner told us about her tree and gave us permission to include it in our book. We talked to another homeowner too about a tree we liked; from her story, it seemed like it was was probably a seedling. Of course, your experience might vary. Not everyone likes answering the door to talk to strangers. It would help if you had the Ornamental Cherries in Vancouver book with you, something to give legitimacy to your intrusion.

Three pink perfection marked in the map were removed, and young Shiro-fugen were planted. Another group of Kanzan are nearby.

Thank goodness for the Cherries Janice, as the buildings are not a pretty sight at all. I know some people like them , but all that concrete!!

Hi all, the season has started and Okame at Telus building along Boundary and Kingsway are in bloom!
I did also pop in the SFU and walked around but the trees around the AQ are just budding with no blooms yet.

The 17 Whitcomb cherry trees at Ayshire and Arvin peaked about 5 days ago in Burnaby North.

Today was a great day to be showered with blossoms at this location (quite windy).
    20220319_AyshireArvin_Whitcomb_Tremblay_IIMG_1259.jpg v 20220319_AyshireArvin_Whitcomb_Tremblay_IIMG_1299.jpg 20220319_AyshireArvin_Whitcomb_Tremblay_IIMG_1302.jpg

There seems to be less bloom this year due to tree disease, but this very hilly street offers a great view of Metrotown skyrises so it's always worth it.

Hummingbirds frequently visit the blossoms at this location. You just gotta hope they stand still for a minute so you can get the shot.

The trees should look good for another five days. Visit soon.

This lonely Accolade was spotted at Frances and Rosser. I'll submit to the vcbf map since it's not there yet.

Only 10% of the blossoms are open. I think it will take another 7 days for Accolade to be fully bloomed in Burnaby.

Not sure if this is Somei-Yoshino or not. Not great pics, the few that were in blossom were rather high up on the tree. It does look like there is separation of the petals to the base so you see the sepals through, and there is a notch on the petal, but no frills. This is why I don't think it is Accolade. Pale pink/white, but nice dark pink in bud, and red sepals/calyx. Can Someone confirm? thx.....I forgot about the extra sepal for Akebono, but I don't' really see that, but these are young blossoms and few are open yet.

'Akebono' - dark pink buds, grafted tree, curved petals, smooth twigs.
There's one Akebono marker for the trees in the posting at Burnaby. I think this location is covered by that marker.

Thanks Wendy. I figured after I did more reading they may have been Akebono, i was looking for bumpy twigs....but not sure if i saw them or not. I didn't see that petaloid thing. However they are not on the map. The Map posting is 2 blocks up from where these 3 trees were. It is the block south of Portland towards Winnifred. There were more a block down, but I didn't go down to look at them, although they did look like the same dark pink bud from a distance.

OK, I've changed the marker text to "Several 'Akebono' on McKay north of Southwood, and south of Southwood for at least three blocks."
It gets annoying on a map to keep opening markers that turn out to be all for the same stretch of trees. I've only used one marker for 5 or 6 blocks of the same trees, and only added what I think of as extra markers when the trees cross a major street or a neighbourhood boundary.

Thx, I didn't think to look 3 blocks up for the markers. Personally I like more markers since I have a narrow focus at times :)......you ought to see my personal google maps saved places LOL. I did rename the pics and reloaded them.

A favorite location in Burnaby North, the four rows of Akebono behind Save-on-Food at the Madison Centre (Rosser/Madison) are now 100% in bloom and they're magnificent, even on a cloudy rainy day.

Another favorite in Burnaby North: the eight blocks of Akebono on Georgia (between Willingdon and Gilmore) are 40-50% bloomed. They'll pop nicely in a a few days

    20220326_georgiacarleton__akebono_tremblay_IMG_1567.jpg

In other locations in Burnaby, buds are still in early phase of elongation with only 20% flowers like at William/Willingdon and Carleton/Cambridge. These trees will need another week to bloom.

Two Spire trees at Carleton and Triumph. New to the map I believe, so I'll add.

The two trees of 'Shosar' are in full bloom on the south side of Sherban Crescent, east of Holdom, at March 26, 2022.
Bright "cerise" pink flowers with red sepals and calyxes, and veins on the petals.

Not sure if i missed it but I believe these are gone. They're a favourite pinned on the map but there's construction on that side of Metrotown now.

While around the area, we checked out the Afterglow at Victory too and they're out with a very intense pink.

Umineko are blooming nicely on many blocks along Sperling (between Broadway and Adair). I love its tiny flowers and their overlapping petals.
