Hi everybody, during this difficult time for everybody around the world, it would be really nice for people on this and Maple Society forums to post a Spring photo of one or more of their Maples that are starting to leaf out. I know it would cheer me up. I will attach one of mine. Its Katsura, hope you like it.

Hi LoverOfMaples, looks like some of yours are further on than mine in Southern England. Great photos, wonderful to see. Thanks for sharing them.

Hi fritz, Beni Hime is a wonderful little maple. Perfect for a pot or smaller garden. My wife and I think it's the cutest of all maples. If you can purchase one in Andalucia we would thoroughly reccomend doing so. Added a picture of ours.

Too bad, this year I have not found any here in Europe, unless it exists under another name.
I found one in a German nursery, but I don't know if it will be "beni hime" in the catalog as "Acer palmatum Hime Shojo".

Wonderful, looks like last Summer's photos unless you are way ahead of the UK. Must be difficult to keep them healthy with the heat you get there.

This year spring has been brought forward a month.
Here the temperatures are very high, in summer we have from 100º to 115º F. although at night it gets quite refreshing as we are near Sierra Nevada.
They can only be maintained well with a microclimate provided with automatic fogging, and in the shadows.

I admire what you have done, the automatic flogging especially at night is essential. Well done!!

Hi Luke, thanks I thought we should all share our Spring maple photos during this difficult time. Great photos of some your collection. First one from your bedroom window I think? Perhaps you can buy the farmers field at the back of you so you can increase collection!!!! It doesn't matter how long any of us have been growing JM's, every year is as exciting as the last. Keep safe.

Good morning. It's looking like a nice sunny weekend here in Oxford so i will get outside and try to figure where I'm going to put them all, and how to arrange them etc. I mowed the lawn for the first time yesterday which was great. I would love to be able to buy the field behind my house. I could build my own little arboretum. Unfortunately I'm not filthy rich so will be sticking with what I have. I still have room for one or two more..... haha.

Hi LoverOfMaples, lovely photo of your Kiyohime. My Ariadne is at the same stage as yours. I don't know about you but it has always confused me with JMs, you expect them to leaf out and they do exactly the opposite every so often. I think that's why we maple lovers really are fascinated by them. I have attached a couple more of mine Coral Pink and Mikawa Yatsubusa. The sun is shining brightly here although a bit cold, so am hoping a lot more leafing out this week.

A few of mind seem to be opening up earlier and earlier by the year. I'm guessing it's due to the early warm weather we have been getting here in the Northeast. Like today, it 50f and tonight it suppose to get down to 23f. So I do what I have to do to keep my babies safe.

I've been trying to get Coral Pink but they keep sending me Coral Magic. So I have 2 now

It is annoying when nurseries do that, I have had the same experience in the UK. All the pink varieties are especially pleasing in the Spring. Coral Pink and Wilson's Pink Dwarf are our particular favourites. Talking of babies I keep all my young grafts under shelter until late April. This protects from frosts as they leaf out and from excessive water if we have days of heavy Spring rain.

Think of the times when there was no internet, no e-mails, no forums, no Skype, and letters tooks days to get to their destination...

We're lucky to have a garden, for most of us here.

Strange weather too: we had three days at 17-19° C in the afternoon and no wind so it really felt like a nice beginning of June, about 6-8°C at sunrise and today only 14°C but with 50 km/hr wind so it felt much, much colder. And temperatures below zero are coming again. Crazy.

But nice colours, let's cheer up:
