Other cities also have ornamental Chery blossoms. It is nice to have info on them if travelling but sometimes there are live webcams to view them without leaving home.

This mornings talk from High Park clarified a few things - the variety is Somei-yoshino with an expected life there of 30-40 years that produces small fruit that the birds and squirrels eat.
Thanks. This was a lot more interesting than watching the flowers open! The livestream (earlier posting) is a nice scene now, though, if you remember to look when it's daytime there. His answer to "can sakura trees survive anywhere in the world" only mentioned how far north they would grow, but there is a southern limit as well, at least for flowering, as they need a cold period to set blooms.
