There are 7 Whitcomb cherry trees on West 39th from Highbury to Olympic. They have started to bloom already. Most of them have less than 10% of flowers now, but the second tree from the corner of 39th & Olympic on North sade has bloomed more han 30%. They'll be full bloom in 2 weeks I guess. Whitcomb - Dunbar_Southland - West 39th & Olympic Today( March 5, 1 week has passed since I wrote the article) , Whitcombs on West 39th street are blooming more now. One tree became almost full bloom and 3 trees have bloomed about 30%, but others are still about 10%. It might take 2 more weeks to be full bloom unless weather changes to be very warm.
Whitcomb - Dunbar_Southland - West 39th & Olympic Now almost full bloom! Today I went to the site. All the Whitcombs are almost full bloom now! When they started blooming I thought flowers were rather reddish pink. But now they are beautiful pinkish pink! I think it resembles the color of Accolade in full bloom. Although Accolade drops the finished petals and sometimes finished flowers in shape soon after they started blooming, Whitcomb doesn't drop petals so much. You can see finished & dried petals with blooming flowers on the tree.

Finished flowers of whitcombs don't fall off. Most on them are staying on the twigs and dried up and faded. 2 small trees on right side of the picture are not cherries but plums. Now they are not worth coming, but there are many purple-leaved plums on highbery street.
Dunbar is famous for Kanzans. SW Marine Drive is beautiful with plums. But there are more in our Neighborhood. I found there are many Akebonos on W 39th and W 38th between Dunbar and Blenheim. (Parhaps old residents already know about them!) They started to bloom now! There is one tree which is in full bloom now near SW Corner of 38th & Collingwood. It is a bit different from Akebono. Flowers are a bit smaller and very regular shape. You can see clear bigger star shapes in the flowers. I think it is Somei-Yoshino. West 38th Street is chosen as a festival favorite site for Takasago. But they haven't started to bloom yet. But there is one tree which I'm not sure. This might be a Takasago or a broken-limbed Akebono. Or a different Cultivar which I don't know. Parhaps after 3 days we can know! There are some double-Flowers cherry. But I can't recognize them yet.
Re: Dunbar_Southland I found Somei-Yoshino flowers are pale than Akebono. They look regular and cleaner. They bloom earlier than Akebono.
Re: Dunbar_Southland There are so many Beautiful Akebono trees in our neighborhood. There is a row of Akebono on South side of 42nd Ave. between Collingwood to Blenheim. They are older and bigger than those of 38th & 39th. One tree in the middle of the row is very thick. It must have a diameter of 50 cm or more. Unfortunately Blenheim between 41st and SW Marine Drive is now closed for construction. So you have to go into Collingwood from 41st Ave. There is a row of Akebono on Wallace Street between 39 and 41st. Some Akebono trees (also other cherries) make balls of flowers on the branches.

Re: Dunbar_Southland I was sort-of following Douglas's drive to work, described in his April 11 Blog, and somehow passed by this nice display on Carnarvon at 45th looking south. Mariko has a nice photo earlier of the Akebonos on Wallace above 41st. There's also a Yae-beni-shidare on the block above 41st. I thought this might be the street of Akebonos off Dunbar, but it might be a bit farther north, at 37th and Wallace. These are the trees on Kullahun Drive, which I'd never been on before. There are only 5 Takasago Trees on W. 38th Ave. between Collingwood and Blenheim. Takasago trees in Vancouver are not very healthy shape. But flowers are Beautiful. The flowers look like Accolades. But Douglas said that if you see the back of flowers you see star shape sepals which have more than 5 hand. (Accolade and most other cherry blossom have always 5 sepals) Also color is not as deep as Accolade and more delicate pink. There are 14 more Takasago trees on 38th between Highbury and Camosun St.(westside of Dunbar which Wendy reported!) They stand in rows of Purple-leaved Plums.

Tree shape is different, blooming time is different also the color is different. But when you see this picture you might think it would be a picture of Accolade. This is a picture of a center part of this tree located on 38th near Wallace. Yesterday I found an Accolade tree on 37th between Highbury and Wallace. I picked up some fallen flowers and brought them home with Takasago flowers and put in a salad bowl. Then I mixed up which is which. Today I collected Takasago flowers from 38th and Accolade flowers from 50th. (There were no flowers fallen at 37th!! So I had to go to 50th and Marine Crescent.) I brought back home and compared them thoroughly. Then I put them in a salad bowl. I put 8 flowers each. But still I found difficulty to recognize which was which.
Re: Dunbar_Southland 1. Beautiful Young Akebonos on 37th between Highbury and Wallace. I couldn't find grafting on trunk of some trees. There is one Accolade tree. It's almost finished but still has some new flowers. I think it's very good idea to have one accolade. We can start spring a little earlier. 2. 1 Washi-no-o on 38th Between Dunbar and Highbury [Edited by wcutler May 4, 2020]: tree is no longer there 3. Tai Haku on 39th Between Blenheim and Dunbar and on Blenheim Between 38th to 40th There are 10 Taihaku on Blenheim and more on 39th. There are a row of Akebono on one side and Tai Haku on the other side on 39th between Dunbar and Collingwood.

Olympic Street, both side of 41st Street There is a wonderful canopy of Avium plenas on Olympic street between 41st to 39th. I walked this street many times in early cherry season to check Whitcombs on 39th. But I didn't realise they are Avium plena until today. I can't remember those trees at that time. I knew white cherries are blooming there but I thought they were just Avium till I got off the car today! They are big and gorgeous! Why there are not so many streets with Avium Plena? Perhaps they grow too much. There are some Crab Apples (not cherry) Started to bloom on 39th next to Whitcomb. There are Kanzans on Olympic between 41st and SW Marine Drive. They are beautiful now, too. Also I found a tree like Amanogawa in the garden of the second house from North-East corner of 41st and Olympic. It looks like Amanogawa but unfortunately we can't go inside the garden and have cross examination.
Posted on May 6 Kanzans are beautiful everywhere! But I think 16th Ave. between Blenheim and Arbutus. is one of the most beautiful spots. Kansans are at the both side of the road. You can see some Ukons at the center parts of the road between Blenheim to Trafalgar.
I live next door to the house with this tree and know the neighbours. Would you like me to ask them if they know what kind it is? (And thanks to your post, now we know the name of the cherries outside our house on Olympic St.)
Attached are two photos of the tree referred to above as possibly Amanogawa, which grows in our neighbour's yard. These were the closest I was able to get from our front yard. Perhaps someone can verify what variety they are from the blossoms.
Eric, they do look like Amanogawa (also written Ama-no-gawa). What's distinctive about that cultivar is the narrow upright growth, double pinky-white flowers (the blossoms are old now and have red centres, but they didn't when they were young), and particularly the stiff stems/upward-facing flowers.
