Heading into Year 3 of JM growing

In my collecting so far, the field grown ones *which basically have unlimited access for roots to grow and seek what they want*, IME, tend to be more vigorous in terms of marketability than the ones grown in pot for it's a majority of it's life. Granted, getting spade and bur lapped for sale, one does lose some roots during this process.

On some #15-#45 *boxed* ones, you can tell it's been dug up and potted in a box...as the main roots on them are just much larger IME than a potted one that tends to have many more fibrous roots .

I'm curious if any of you guys prefer one vs. the latter.
If the JM is going to be planted in ground, I think the field grown ones are just *overall larger*.
Root loss is more since they are dug and burlapped:repot in box

If one intends to pot grow a JM , I'm leaning on the latter since the roots are not thick roots until you get into the larger caliper sizes.

Is my conclusion correct - field grown *if one has access to said cultivar* , and then pot grown if one seeks a smaller plant or one intends to keep growing it in a pot so the root structure is different than a field grown.

If it's all about the roots....containers seem to be winner here.
It it's all about stem/leader/overall vigor, field grown .

So which one is it.....is one more superior to the other when buying the same cultivar ?
