    Hello everyone!

I garden with my grandma and in our backyard we have a pretty old fig tree. Its unfortunately been attacked by pests and we are unsure if it will survive. I'm hoping to identify the specific species so that if it does die we can get the same tree. I've attached some images below! There's the ripe fruit, the unripe fruit, the tree, branches, leaves, and a new branch sprouting. The ripe fruit is when it's purple and I'm holding it in my hand. If there's any more images I can attach to help, please let me know!

The species is common fig (Ficus carica) - what you want to know is which cultivar it is. However, if the problem you are seeing (nothing jumps out at me in your pictures) is something that will also beset any replacement trees you install then really you need to find out what the problem is and if it is something you can get rid of or minimize. Try California Cooperative Extension for help with this.

Here is one of many websites that explain how to start fig trees from cuttings: StackPath

    It is apparently quite easy.
