If it works - don't try to fix it!
The internet is full of cross species friendships. An Old retired Elephant and a dog. The Dog that regularly goes down to the ocean to swim with a dolphin friend. The Great White shark that "watches over" the fisherman that cut him out of a fishing net, saving his life. (Doesn't help much with his fishing)
Google "LOL Cats" some time and go through their catagories.

Here's another story of interspecies friendship.
In 2004, Owen, a young Nile hippo, was found stranded by a tsunami. He was given a home at Haller Park in Kenya. There he met Mzee, an elderly Albabran tortoise. The two became fast friends.
Much info available: they have their own web site and book.

    Here is one article:

If only people could learn to coexist so well.

What makes this relationship unusual is that it was beyond friendship.

Uh, well, I think that all of the above-described is pretty unusual.

No doubt. I should have said "particularly unusual" in reference to these two.
