Thank you Willard. The strong wind this morning made any attempt of taking a closeup a challenge.
Visitors to Graveley street (corner of Lillooet) will be disappointed this year. The Akebono are in bloom, but the road is closed due to construction.
Here's what it looks like at the top:
Then as you walk down the road, it's all construction.
Here's a view from the bottom of the hill.
It looks like some of the branches that were forming an archway over the street were cut to make room for the crane. So sad!
It's hard to guess whether the residents are unhappy about the construction or happy to not have the throngs of people this year. It's a shame about the archway, though. I think I should make it not a favourite this year, will set a reminder to change it back to favourite next year.
Accolade are fully bloomed on 5th and Lillooet. Looking beautiful with the Brentwood skyrises.
Akebono (about 70% bloomed) form a archway at 6th and Slocan on a small hill.
Yes, I went by yesterday as well and spotted some Akebonos amidst the Accolades too! :)
Schmitt Cherries at 6th and Renfrew look spectacular as they're tall but the blossoms are a bit more sparse.
The partner and I did a walk around the area over the weekend and here are some photos to share as many are in bloom! Will add some markers to the map as well as there were hidden gems not on the map. Would also need help with ID for those I'm not entirely sure of, thanks!
We found a nice grove of Accolades at Rupert Park, north west side, right next to the bus stop along Rupert St.
If you walk along 7th between Lillooet and Renfrew, the Kanzans are not out yet, but you can find Akebonos amidst them near Nootka. Found this with the Akebono falling strategically over the bird house very cute!
And one young white one which I suspect may be Shirotae but will likely have to go back to confirm. Also along 7th but nearer Renfrew junction.
These are private plantings but very pretty. ID help would be great.
These 2 whites I suspect may be Snofozam.
This I suspect might be Beni-shidare as they're single and small.
Schmitt Cherries along 6th at Renfrew are so tall they're spectacular but flowers seem a bit sparse.

Akebono at 6th Ave near Penticton
It looks like close to full bloom.
I feel like it’s blooming earlier than last year.
Yes on the 'Beni-Shidare' and 'Shirotae'. I don't know how to distinguish 'Snofozam' from its look-alikes. Nice ttrees, though.
I thought I've posted about the Akebono and Accolade mix along 5th between Lillooet and Nootka but I probably missed them out. It was a bit of fun trying to guess which are Akebono and which Accolade without going near to see the flowers. Amazing mountain and cloud view too.
Now is the time to visit Callister Park.
‘Shirofugen’ approaching peak bloom.
There are ‘Kanzan’ blooming now as well.
Sandwiching a ‘Shirofugen’ in this case.
Help is needed to identify what cherries these are. The owner is adamant they're called "vestitigated" cherries. Google doesn't seem to recognise this phrase.
An adjective that describes the habit (general shape) of these cherries is "fastigiate" - having branches sloping almost straight up, close to the trunk.
Thanks Wendy and Willard! :)
We thought they were Ama-no-gawa too!
