Help ID this plant please

    This plant was donated to our Hort Society plant sale with no ID. I live in the Niagara region of Southern Ontario.
    The leaves are alternate and toothed. New stem growth is bright red, with upper leaves having red veins. Leaves are about 3cm wide and 6cm long.
    I wonder if it could be a beech tree but have not seen red on those.
    Can anyone help me?

    Any glands at the base of the leaves on the petioles?

    Thank you for your response but I believe I have the answer by now. I have been told it is a choke cherry.

    Sorry, I was away on holidays. Glands at the base of the leaves would heavily suggest Prunus (which includes chokecherry).
