Tree is suffering from stunted growth and excessive diebacks. Trunk has gotten more girthy in the 5+ years it was planted in the ground, but the tree hasn't grown at all. Any growth it has will dieback next season. It has stayed basically the same height for the 5 years. Looks even worst and not a full.

I dug around the roots and see a lot of roots crisscrossing. But it could be roots from other trees nearby.

Attached are a few photos. Should I get an arborist to come look at it and see what they can do?

Just looking at the soil? Looks like a heavy type of clay / soil mix? You don't want water retention in the root structure as that is one of the red flags I see in the attached photo's. Good drainage is critical to a healthy specimen.

It does look dug into a bit of a dip, which will not help with the clay. I can see at least one root that is crossing a major trunk and will have to go. But was it rootbound when you planted? Did anyone do root correction?
