Hello I hope someone is able to give me some advice regarding yukka tree roots. How deep do yukka tree roots go and are they easy to remove ? Also is there any danger of them damaging water pipes etc ? Many thanks in anticipation of a reply. Anita
Their roots don't go down much more than 1/2 meter, however they are very wide spreading. Any fragment left will very likely sprout a new plant. Water pipes shouldn't be harmed.
I have a Yucca elephantipes in the ground and had to lop off one section over a year ago. The roots did not sprout.
Susan's results would seem to be atypical. http://www.wikihow.com/Kill-Yucca-Plants http://www.hpj.com/archives/2006/nov06/nov6/Partnershipmaypointtobetter.cfm http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/load/peren/msg0718130510862.html http://www.ehow.com/how_5489643_kill-yucca-plants.html http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_kill_a_yucca_plant http://www.hardytropicals.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8776
