Never noticed this plant growing under our evergreen trees until the berries showed up. Berries almost look like currants, but the leaves do not. Any ideas? thanks
thanks I live in Ft St John and according to this map E-Flora BC Atlas Page there's only one reported location for this plant is this forum monitored by folks who maintain the E-Flora BC atlas?
Hmm.. that link shows many dots, but the one for variety leucocarpa only shows one. The way maps for varieties are handled can be...quirky, because herbarium records sometimes don't get into enough detail, or people linking go into too much. Double-check the link you just posted and I hope you'll see more location dots.
Hi Dan, spoke with you before I retired from F&W...what I meant there's only one reported location in my area, but I know what you mean about maps...
Ah! That makes more sense. I would guess it is an instance of undercollection, then--E-Flora only aggregates the data for what is deposited in herbaria. No specimens, no dots. That said, I know there's been some intensive collecting in the area recently, and whenever that data comes online, I think you'll have a better record of what occurs locally for you.
