Identification: Identification of yellow mushroom on a tree trunk

Yellow, cap about 3 inches in diameter, thin stalk
Three on one tree trunk, and five on another tree trunk
Seen on October 18, 2018 on Mayne Island

 

Hi David - These lovely critters are in Pholiota genus, possibly P. aurivella, not sure.

 

They are so beautiful - bright colour and shiny. Almost wanting to pick them. It would be wrong to deprive others to see them.
I didn't provide you with enough features to pin down the specific species, but now I know which genus, and possibly P. aurivella. I appreciate your effort. Thank you.

 

Beauty does not last forever. This was what they looked like two months later.
