Is my cactus dying??

I've had my domino cactus for almost a year now and There's like this really stiff beige/cream coloured stuff. It's the same texture as the actual cacti skin but it's really stiff and I don't know if it's a type of rot?? Help please

Yes, that looks harmless. I am more worried about the shape of the plant, it indicates that it needs more light.

 

i have it next to a window i just assumed it was growing up before it grows in width.
