is this a 1st year weld plant

    hello again

    Can you be absolutely amazing and ID this plant from the picture.
    I gave my sis some seeds but she lost the name card.
    I do not remember giving her weld seeds but perhaps I mixed up the packages by an accident.
    I did have some weld seeds but that is not something she would have wanted to grow.

    Looks like Centaurea macrocephala. A listed noxious weed in Washington. But: what's the one to the left doing? Is that a sibling? One that bloomed already?

    from your link......this plant is weld or dyers rocket...it dyes fabric a bright yellow
    your answer looks to be correct

    the centaurea macrocephala seems to be a type of napweed. I know it well. I Did not have these seeds to give my sis

    I was given the weld plant seeds and plan to grow them for dying fabric and paper .
    this pic is the 1 st year of its biennial life.

    now i can let my sister know what to expect next spring summer when it shoots up some 3 feet or more.
