    Hello fellow gardeners!

Happy Springtime:) I have a few questions for you Gnome-it-Alls (That's a good thing!)

First: I have these weed-like plants near my dianthus (cheddar pinks) and I am not sure what they are. They have been there since last summer and maintained a green colour all winter - did not die back at all. Now it's spring and it is still very much alive! The roots are very fine and they grow en mass as you can see. Could they be new pinks coming up?

Second: Also, should I be cutting back my cheddar pinks this spring? If so, how do I do it? Should I cut the existing plant down? I have not done anything but deadhead the blooms since last summer. It looks like new plants are growing underneath the old growth.

Third: I just bought some mini carnations - can I put them in now (the temperature is still cold at night 3*C, it is raining a lot, but sunny in spurts.
Should I wait until May 24 weekend to be safe?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)
