    Hi

I have a money plant which has been dropping old leaf! I've been informed that this is quite normal but I've noticed that some of the branches are dropping as well!

As I live in cooler part of the world I only drench the soil about once a month!

    Am I underwatering?

Allow your Jade to dry completely, in the cold climes leave indoors...least I do.

In winter water the plant less

Temps: 55 at night and up to 80 daytime.

I usually let the soil dry out and then give it a small mineral water bottle worth of water!

I never put jade outside as I had a bad experience with small black fly with a previous jade!

When you say dry out do you mean totally bone dry?

After a month the soil is usually dry to about 4 inches deep!

    Many thanks

How much light does it get? The spacing between leaves suggests it may need more. The branches may be dropping from weight.

Don't worry, they are very hard to kill. And easily root from even a single leaf.

It's situated by a north facing window which gets plenty of bright light but little direct sunlight!

it can handle direct sun for at least part of the day. root a branch and try it in different parts of your dwelling.

What's the best method as I've not had much success when I've tried it before!

Break off a small (4 inch or so) healthy branch, let it callous for a week, and then stick it in soil. Leave it alone, water it once a week or less. Give it a gentle tug after a couple of months and it will probably resist - sure sign the roots are doing their job. You can even do the above with a single leaf and it will take off (with or without letting the leaf callous).

Succulents have a unique water storage capacity giving them amazing skills to survive drought conditions. They can be revived VERY easily even after getting all shriveled up.

Cheers to you too, and good luck. Experiment!!!!

btw, not all succulents can be propagated in this manner, and not all will have the same characteristics when this propagation method is used. In the case of jade, though, it will look like the parent plant.

I tried to root a branch but I stuck it straight into the soil and watered to frequently!
