Thanks to Yumiko Cybucki for sending along this link to a short video from NHK Broadcasting in Japan. It's in English, and is titled "Somei-Yoshino cherry tree". It talks about the origin of 'Somei-yoshino', including a demonstration of how they were initially reproduced by grafting low onto Oshima cherry tree stock. It also mentions other types of cherries including white cherry, Usuzumi-zakura, which Mariko Izaki has mentioned once as being an Edo-higan. We don't have either of those terms in our book. I don't know how long this link will work - I've written to ask.
