A dear friend is looking for help with a Lion’s Head Japanese Maple located on the shore of Lake Whatcom WA.

It looks as if the area has been recently landscaped? If so, the root system may have been disturbed or damaged and the tree is shutting down parts of the canopy to compensate. If this is the case the tree should stabilise and recover given time. In terms of practical advice, neatly cut out any dead branches, then wait and see.
