Does anyone know where to find larger specimens 2 gallons on up of JP and Mayday in the Willamette Valley? I am currently located in Corvallis. And nurseries from Portland to Eugene aside form Buchholz and Crispin do not even know what they are. I cannot even seem to find Mikawa Seedlings. I already have a 1 gallon, am always looking for bigger. The ones I have found online are overpriced and shipping is 1/3 the total cost for larger specimens.
Hi Todd and welcome to the maples forum. Mr Maple sell both and do mail order. Also here is a link to other sellers of maples in North America. https://forums.botanicalgarden.ubc....s-specializing-in-maples-in-north-america.31/
Understood Todd, but Buchholz created Mayday and is now owned by Mr Maple, so it's strange they hadn't heard of it. Do hope you find one though.
I think was Todd means that Buchholz and Cripin are the only nurseries who have HEARD of those maples. Most the folks that work at the local nurseries are not experts, and the selection is hit and miss, especially for Mayday and JP. I know a few spots to check, give me call Todd and we can chat about where to look. I think with the purchase of Buchholz, our sugar pot finds may be gone for larger size Talon introductions. But there indeed was a day when you could purchase 2 gallon Japanese Princess on the cheap, and HANDPICK the best ones out of a line up of 20 after smoking a joint in the parking lot. If only Red Panda had hit the circuit here early hahaha.
