Hi, I just pruned my concord, vanessa and sovereign coronation grape vines. They are in their first year so I decided to do away with the majority of their growth. I left a small amount of hardened growth on each vine. Do you think it is too early....I'm in zone 6a....can they die from frost?

As long as you left the growth that you want for next year, there shouldn't be any problem. Any late new growth will die during the winter. I remove undesirable new growth any time it appears, and I prune off unwanted fruiting canes as soon as the grapes on the canes are harvested. The vines respond quite well to this treatment.
