The 'Somei-yoshino' at the armory on Burrard and York is in bloom too - see posting #31.
Biking around parts of Kits today, some cherries in bloom -
Stellata at the Museum of Vancouver in full bloom.
The somei-yoshino at the tennis courts at Kits beach in full bloom. The Oshima there are about to start blooming.
Two Pendula Snofozam (?) on York St. between Stephens and Trafalgar
Two 'Snofozam' in the same place, that's like a grove!
Mary Ellen, I must have just missed you at the Planetarium! You didn't post blossoms, so I get to post these. I keep just missing people - this could be a much more sociable job if we could organize.
These are the 'Stellata', Star Cherries. It was nice to see other people enjoying these cherries too. They seem pretty good-looking this year.
I was so sure when I saw these trees through the Museum of Vancouver window that this was demonstrating the earlier blooming time of 'Somei-yoshino' vs. 'Akebono', but no, all these trees in back of the building are 'Akebono' - the one nearest the building fully in bloom (the blossom photo is from that tree - note staminode in top blossom), and the others right next to it almost not in bloom at all.
Here is what might be the only 'Somei-yoshino' in this park, near the Planetarium. The construction mess looks the same to me as it did last year.
'Shirotae' are just starting to open in Kits. Most of these locations are not on the map, so I'm posting what I've got.
This ungainly-looking tree will no doubt look better once it's in bloom. It's on 1st, west of Cypress.
I think it's three trees on Maple at 2nd, and one just around the corner on 2nd. They've been posted before. The ones on Maple are very nice-looking.
Here are two nice 'Shirotae' on 3rd at Maple.
There are two 'Shirotae' at the church on 7th and Maple, and two more on the same church property on 8th.
I post the group under the courtyard canope at Broadway and Maple every year. They're the first to bloom in the city. These are fully in bloom now.
These two nice 'Akebono' are not on our map, on 7th near Maple.
And there are around four 'Akebono' on Maple south of 8th.
I forgot to look to see if the Schmitt Cherries were in bloom - I saw one pretty much open Downtown near the Aquabus stop. Rancho are half open on 6th and Cypress. Pandora are fully open.
Oshima cherry at Kits beach in full bloom on Easter Monday.
Walk under these beautiful Akebonos on Pt. Grey Rd at Blenheim
Takasago in bloom on north side of Creelman, west of Chestnut, April 1, 2013.
Friends reported a very pleasant walk on 1st at Cypress under Shirotae blossoms.
Someone who left no name or email address entered this 'Akebono' location to our map - two trees at the gazebo at the Arbutus Walk development at Yew, where 11th would be.
Looking for another location entered by maybe the same person, I came across these 'Akebono' on Yew between 4th and the lane north of that. There's one 'Kanzan' in this photo; the rest of the block to 3rd is a double row of 'Kanzan'; actually, 'Kanzan' run for nine blocks on Yew, with just this short break of 'Akebono'.
The 'Akebono' at Kits Beach are looking glorious - quite a bit better than the view through my windshield shows.
One 'Shirotae' planted with a magnolia on Vine at Redbud (north of 12th).
Several 'Shirotae' outside Kits House at 7th and Vine.
Nice little 'Yae-beni-shidare' on Vine north of 5th.
And next door, a nice little 'Beni-shidare'. I think these were pink when they first came out.
I forgot to say that the 'Tai Haku' on Burrard and York, across from the armory, are in full bloom and looking beautiful and very "great". The 'Hosokawa-nioi between them is not at all in bloom yet.
Park at 5th and waterloo has a somei-yoshino still looking quite good and the second is an akebono in the same park
Four akebonos at Collingwood and Pt Grey Rd. The second picture has VCBF haikus strung on the hedge.
One Ukon (facing south) fully in bloom on 1st at Pt Grey Rd and the others are just starting.
And another Ukon on McNicoll at Cypress.
Some of the dozen or so Kanzan on Creekside in bloom and the rest are starting.
The kanzans on Creekside mentioned below are in full bloom now. #140
The Ukons on Pt Grey Rd mentioned below (#139) are also in full bloom. Facing them, across the street are 4 kanzans on one property.
No camera with me! Off duty.
The Hosokawa, between the two trees of Tai Haku, is in bloom at Burrard and Cornwall on April 15, 2013.
There are three Ukons just past the entrance to Mariner Walk off Island Park Way near Granville Island.
Three Amanogawa on Maple at Ogden. They are behind the hedges to the property so not very easy to see.
Five Ukon in full bloom at Pt Grey Rd and MacDonald.
Two young Kiku-shidare-zakura at 2430 Pt Grey Rd on the curve across from Kits Beach.
Kwanzan flowering cherry at 3170 West 15th Avenue, Vancouver. Planted 3 years ago.
Nice 'Shirofugen' has lots of room to reach out for mountain air at NE Chestnut and Ogden, right across from Maritime Museum, on April 30, 2013.
Re: Kitsilano January 2014 blooms
I posted this Autumnalis Rosea last year toward the end of January. It is in full bloom now so it's probably been out for awhile. On 1st at Waterloo in the front garden of a private home.
This Whitcomb cherry was bloomed found by Mei-Zong Liu near Balsam and West 1 Ave on January 18.
Will we have an early cherry blooming season this year?
