I just received mine today! I’m a new member so this was my first time trying the seed exchange program. I received a ton of seeds as well. I had never heard of most of these varieties. Looking forward to getting started with them! :)
@Aspen21 and @LoverOfMaples , I'm interested: what did you get? I think the seed comes mostly from Westonbirt now. As Hugh A. has withdrawn from MS activity, I don't know if that will continue next year, or if he'll still collect for another couple of years. A paradoxical situation exists, in that here in France (and maybe Spain too) we're told that we can only participate in a "French exchange", which consists of mostly folks sending in their JM seed for distribution. It's an honorable effort, but much less interesting than the "UK exchange" because of the sourcing, the fact that many French members may not know when to harvest for best results, and of course because it's almost entirely Japanese, without any of the viable seed from interesting species we've received over the years. (Of course, many members are really only interested in JMs, so for them it may be the more interesting exchange). The paradox of course is that the NAB members still get MS seed, while the EU members don't get it! -E

Hey E. I've been trying to get around to making a list of the seeds but time haven't been on my side lately. I did notice a lot of different snake bark. Now this is very interesting!
That's an interesting set of seed, thanks @Aspen21. A. fulvescens is a very rare maple, and pretty; probably likely to hybridize with platanoides, but I would certainly have been interested in trying this one. Some of the seed is known to come true from Westonbirt source: takesimense (some), kawakamii (caudatifolium), buergerianum of course, pectinatum mostly, micranthum, franchetii (also a fairly rare tree), cappadocicum, probably the difficult nipponicum, presumably macrophyllum. A. kawakamii is very rare but probably impossible to grow outside in your locations. Even here it's very complicated. Mostly the Sec Macrantha (snakebarks) do not come true, but you can get some excellent hybrids. The other palmate maples are likely to hybridize too, since there are so many palmatums in the garden, and stuff like trautvetteri rarely breed true from any garden source, which is why it's usually sold as a graft. It will be interesting to see what the Sec Arguta (stachyophyllum, acuminatum) do, I have at least one argutum x stachyophyllum that came from Westonbirt seed. @LoverOfMaples will be interested to see if you got the same selection, if you get around to putting your list together. cheers, -E
