Acer sinense (?... Probably mislabelled any idea what it might be?) :

    Acer (pseudosiboldianum) takesimense :

This may well be A. sinense Alain. I believe it to be a very variable maple, so difficult to ID.

The ones in the shade, or semi-shade, still green :

    'Shishigashira', 'Koto-no-ito', and 'Butterfly' :

    acerp-shishi_231103a.jpg acerp-kotonoito_231103a.jpg acerp_but01_231103a.jpg

Showing more or less colour :

'Phoenix', 'Redwine', 'Atrolineare', and 'Summergold' :

... and I never get tired of 'Beni Hagoromo ! (in the background, the Acer campestre with its rounded lobes, and around, various ones from seed) :

A bit of colour in the Beni Kawa, but the bloodgood has not changed a bit yet.
The Pixie in the greenhouse has turned a nice shade of crimson, even attracted a rare parrot!

    It's for sure A. sinense.

We didn't have much damage either, a few branches down, also 80 kph max. Apparently a birch down somewhere but haven't seen it. Still have to look in the woods, so don't want to speak too soon!

Urban trees - I walked an area of four blocks square in my West End neighbourhood today, to photograph some cherry trees, but the maples were pretty distracting. I've put too many in the posting to really be asking for IDs. I'm just showing off my neighbourhood. But corrections are welcome.

These street trees (= planted by the city) are listed on the city's Street Trees index as Acer freemanii 'Scarlet Sentinel'. Is there any chance this name is right?
Acer freemanii 'Scarlet Sentinel'_PendrellNicola_Cutler_20231103_121837.jpg Acer freemanii 'Scarlet Sentinel'_PendrellNicola_Cutler_20231103_121918.jpg Acer freemanii 'Scarlet Sentinel'_PendrellNicola_Cutler_20231103_121930.jpg

This tree on private property might be Acer freemanii?

    Acer amoenum?

    Acer palmatum
    , maybe.

    Acer
'Princeton Gold'. The city has planted a lot of this cultivar as street trees in my 'hood.

I think this is the tree on the city's index listed as Acer rubrum 'Autumn Blaze'.

Here are two street trees and a private one, from the right: Acer cappadocicum 'Aureum' (according to the city's index), Acer palmatum maybe, and Acer pseudoplatanus.

Enjoying everyone's pictures. Continuing wind and rain here, Ciaran only gave us around 80kph so no real damage of note, the second depression has delivered winds in the 60's. We had the weather people on Friday, moving and splitting up the weather station, which was upgraded to use in a climate study, and they said that even in the Plain of Caen, quite near here, they had 140!

Here are some more the first ones from before Ciaran, then some from after. Lots of yellows this year, I suppose thanks to the rain. And of course, some maples really think it's a good time to grow.

Just to catch up, here are the pics I took yesterday. No fruit on the trees, but in the fields, a late push of cepes.

My Tattoo stealing the show in the garden this morning. Nice showing from the Mikawa and Mikazuki in the background too. Fairy Lights is looking nice with a more basic yellow right, we will see what it does. My Japanese Princess in the ground is showing off, the other 2 in pots not quite so much.

It certainly is! At first I thought it looked a lot like Pixie, then saw the close up. Is it variegated?

It's not variegated, but it's certainly showing that effect with this fall color.

I think Tattoo is one of the most underrated maples. It's become my favorite of everything in the garden based off it's form, superior leaf shape and summer green color and NOW fall color. I think it outperforms Mikawa, Japanese Princess, Mayday, Snow Kitten(lol) and even Mystic Mikawa (my #2). It's a sleeper hit!!!!

Sunshine and showers still the order of the day here in Southern England. But that means a few more photos to share.

The first frost of Autumn here in Southern England, that meant bright bright sun and more maples turning.

Surprisingly, my 'Koto hime' is still green while it gets more sun than 'Shishigashira' :

'Koto hime', very very short internodes :

You know how much I like Acer elegantulum for its autumn colours.

The first one has been in a pot for about two years, and so has the second one. But the latter lost all its leaves in the drought : I never give up, so I put it in a shaded place and pruned 1/3rd of the top and all the branches. It went back to life again ! But with leaves with a slightly different shape :
