Thanks for that info Julie. Mine only gets sun until 11 am, hence why it's not got those lovely pink hues.
Since everything changes so fast here is an update. The bottom still has some of the pale leaves though the top has moved on. I hadn't paid close attention the last couple years as the maple was wrapped (like what Emery has to do for deer) because beavers had off with a few of his maples. There is a creek that runs under our street 2 houses away and all 4 houses that butted up against the creek had trees stolen. Anyway since the tree is only 70 footsteps away from my place and against the sidewalk so I can update without bothering anyone. Back home with a nod to the old cheering ourselves up thread a few samaras.
A great reminder of the old thread, with some lovely maple photos, I wonder if we will need something like that again!!!?
I saw a moth on our front door, which is very close to where ‘Jordan’ is planted, and I had to take a couple of pictures because the colors were such a close match. I didn’t realize that the last of the spring leaves will emerge almost white with a tinge of pink (it’s my first spring with it and so far I am very pleased).
Great photo ! It reminds me of these tiny spiders, white, or light green, that I occasionally spot when I watch my photos on a larger screen. Or stick insects (in French : "phasme", funny isn't it?). Masters of camouflage...
Somewhat less of a camouflage master.. but I found the contrast striking. I believe this is a yellow dung fly (there are cattle nearby), on Deshojo. Also, this tree was purchased as Seigen, but I believe it's Deshojo.
A seedling and cinnamon fern. Ferns of any kind work really well next to maples. I had a lot of Japanese painted ferns, but have gradually transitioned to plain light green ones. I think they accentuate the color of the maples better. I find most of them growing wild in the yard and just transplant them.
Been a while since I posted anything , so as I'm sat in my garden in some welcome evening sunshine, here are a few that looked nice. Ukigumo x2 Emerald Lace x2 Oridono nishiki x2 Olsen's Frosted Strawberry x2 Aka Shigitatsu Sawa x2
Last of the pink new leaves for the season, ‘new Kogane nishiki’ (x2), griseum (x3), and, of course, ‘Shin deshojo’ (x2).
