These are the Shiro-fugen trees that Nadia posted at #123. Their actual location is in Eburne Park, W.71st and Shaughnessy (east of Oak). It's a noisy location due to major traffic circles for SW Marine Drive and the Oak Street Bridge, not at all park-like. Still the trees don't seem to mind. In bloom at April 24, 2020.
These two Shirotae have been allowed to spread their Shirotae wings on the south side of W. 71st, just west of Laurel, so still look very nice even though they are past peak bloom at April 24, 2020.
Two Shiro-fugen on west side of Laurel, north of SW Marine Drive, past peak bloom at April 24, 2020. Finally got a picture of "phylloid (leafy) pistils...becoming stained rosy pink before falling" (Ornamental Cherries in Vancouver, p. 107)
Shiro-fugen along the Cambie meridian, from W. 49th south to SW Marine Drive, extends through two neighbourhoods. These at W. 58th are in bloom at April 26, 2020.
59th & waterford Drive (the Spings at Langara ) These whitcomb maybe last longer than the ones posted in Oakridge.
'Beni-shidare' in a front yard on the south side of W. 57th across from Shannon Mews. Not as far along in bloom as the one @Anne Eng posted in Fairview, but very close. This was not on the map.
One of the Akebono trees blooming along W.64 and Ash must share with its Colt rootstock, which is graciously fading at April 5, 2021.
The mature Akebono trees on both sides of W. 64, from Ash to Heather, are at peak bloom, April 5, 2021.
A Somei-Yoshino has inserted itself into the Akebono clique on W. 64th; on the south side, a bit west of Ash. Just starting to show red eye at April 5, 2021.
Sendai-shidare is starting to bloom its mushroom head on the north side of W. 66 (west of Ash, by alley) at April 5, 2021. Not much fragrance yet.
The Takasago trees along W. 66, between Ash and Heather, are starting their bloom at April 5, 2021. They're on the same side as the Sendai-shidare, which you can see at the right corner of the first photo.
Two Rancho trees have been added to the west side of Heather at W. 62nd. Starting their bloom at April 5, 2021.
A lone Sargent Hybrid tree on the south side of W. 57th (west of Hudson) in full bloom at April 6, 2021. Right at the boundary between Marpole and Oakridge.
The Tai-haku trees along W. 66th, running from Adera to E. Boulevard, are in full bloom at April 11, 2021.
As graceful as this Akebono appears, it's right at the corner (NW corner of Adera and W. 66th) around which are the impressive Tai-haku trees on W. 66th. It's past peak bloom and scattering Akebono "snow" at April 11, 2021. A comparison of petal size shows the pinkish Akebono blossoms barely comes half as big as the Great White.
The two Shirotae trees on the south side of W. 71st (west of Laurel) show exemplary modelling of the wide-spreading, flat-top nature of Shirotae. In full bloom at April 11, 2021 and looking very much like they're spreading the white cloth of their name for a table. Hair-tipped marginal teeth on the leaves. Definite fragrance.
Within a week of opening, Sendai-shidare on the north side of W. 66 (west of Ash, by alley) is in full bloom at April 12, 2021. Not much scent this year. Can see the long, narrow sepals on the pink tapering buds, and the slightly ragged edges of the petals.
The Yae-beni-shidare on the south side of W. 66th, halfway between Ash and Heather, is in bloom at April 12, 2021.
Festival Favourite ‘Whitcomb’ at Rockpoole Dr, north of 59th. Nice group of several trees blooming now.
