The 'Akebono' on the SW corner of W. 64th and Ash will have a hard time catching up to the rest of the 'Akebono' gang lining W. 64th. Its Colt rootstock is going to insist on being carried along. We've just missed Colt's peak, but there are a few flowers left with their prominent stamens that differentiate them from the 'Akebono' blossoms.
The single Somei-yoshino interrupting the 'Akebono' line on the south side of W. 64th (west of Ash), is doing very well at March 26, 2022. Look at those shoots it's sending out. Little knobs on the twig in the last picture for Wendy.
I saw some little knobs on an 'Akebono' today. But not a lot of them. :) I love how different that one 'Somei-yoshino' looks from the 'Akebono' behind it.
This 'Shirotae' is already in full bloom on the east side of Osler, north of W. 70th at April 1, 2022. It would be an exemplary example of Shirotae's spreading branching growth were it not for that extra trunk rising off one side and which does not carry any Shirotae blossoms.
Date: April 17, 2022 Location: Between W70th to W71st along Hudson and Montcalm Type: Kanzan Finally had a chance to check out the Kanzan along Hudson between W70th and W71st. So beautiful with vivid pink. Looks like at it’s full bloom. It must be warmer around here compared to East around my neighborhood cause Killarney area wasn’t blooming as much as Marpole area.
I was sent by a friend to look at some plums, and on the way I passed this nice 'Beni-shidare' in a front yard at Angus and 58th, soon to be on the map.
Marpole's 'Sendai-shidare' is looking very green, as it has passed peak bloom at April 5, 2024. On the north side of W.66th, just west of Ash.
