    My currently-local paper ran an article on Japanese gardens. Other than the fact that it does not mention Vancouver's Nitobe garden at all, it does have an explanation of what makes a Japanese garden with links to more information. I've found two links to the same article that originally ran in the Chicago Tribune:

    Yes, it's an apparently syndicated piece about Japanese gardens rather than a travelogue or survey, hence no mention of the Vancouver location.
