I live in Nanaimo. Can someone tell me where I can obtain Niagara grape plants and how they would do in my climate zone. They would be exposed to direct southern exposure in well drained sandy soil. Thanks
They should do well. They are a very popular grape (volume wise, not necessarily with the hobby or wine growers) in eastern Canada and US. Bert Dunn has Niagara: http://www.hardygrapes.tottenham.on.ca/ and http://www.littlefatwino.com/bertslist.html Ralph
You can get cuttings from Lon Rombough: www.bunchgrapes.com I am on the East slopes of the Washington Cascades and they do very well here
Lon is a great source for vines (cuttings) and information, but unfortunately for us Canucks he cannot ship outside the United States. He may well have more info on Canadian sources. Ralph
We are located in Eastern Washington and are a WA State Certified Nursery. We raise wine, juice and table grape plants. Send email to grapeplants@hotmail.com or grapeplants@embarqmail.com for inventory list for 2008. We do have Certified Niagara grape plants and can ship into Canada. David R. Nevill 1 (509) 829 3326
I live in Chemainus. Ralph Walton has just indicated that my green grape likely is a Niagara. (See: Grape or Rootstock on UBC Bot Garden Thread) It has grown very well. This year, in spite of a cool summer, it produced lots of fruit. The fruits ipened marginally, but I am on a NE facing slope. Ralph suggested that tenting may help the heat units.
