We purchased some land and have found a couple of old pear trees on it. Many lower limbs are dead. As it is mid-February in south western Ontario, I don't have much to go on for identification other than shape of the tree, bark and a few dried out pears still attached to the upper limbs. I am just wondering what approach I should take to helping this tree out, other than removing the thicket of buckthorn around the base of them.
If they appear to be fruiting well apparently they don't need much. Watch them this next year to see if any issues present themselves.
