I was given a Hibiscus tree some months ago, at the end of summer. I've had it indoors for the winter months and something keeps "eating" the leaves. On the back of the leaf, before it goes bad, dark "fungus like" spots occurr and then the leaf begins to be consumed and turns yellow and dies? Any suggestions. See photos please.
The first picture doesn't look like its being eaten, looks more like there's not enough sap flow and the leaf is always the first to show signs of deterioration with pin holes that graduate to larger holes, then the edges start to deteriate giving the resemblance of insect damage. Then last of all yellowing and defoliation. Very common on outdoor plants and trees. And your was outdoors. The black spots on the undersides of the leaves sure does look fungal. Can't say for sure what or even if it is, but it may clear up when you put your tree outside this spring. From your pictures it doesn't seem to be causing any effect on the top side of the leaf. Keep the roots as healthy as you can, well thats all I can say. Good luck on your little tree, Jim S.
