I have just planted a hedge of Golden Bamboo in a concrete planter on my roof for the pupose of creating a privacy screen. I would like to keep this hedge at a height of around 7 feet. When and how should I prune this hedge? Thanks...
Wait and see if the planters allow it to grow that tall, then if they do snip off at desired height each year, after new stems have finished growing. Each stem reaches its full height the same year it emerges from the soil.
The planters are 2 1/2 feet wide and 3 feet deep, 12 feet long. I think that's enough for the bamboo to go crazy with. If I read you right, pruning first thing in the fall would be just about right, after letting it grow through the summer. Thanks for the reply.
