I live In Nova Scotia , The problem I have with my Concord Grapes , is that the Racoons seem to know when the grapes are ripe , and unless I am one step ahead of them they strip the vines , and harming them in any way is out of the question . I was wondering if you pick them before they are all the way ripe , will they ripen in the house , we use ours for Grape Jelly
    Thanks in advance Fitzie

Once you pick the grapes they will ripen no further. Racoons are a real problem and are pretty hard to control. If you can protect them from the racoons then you could get them to ripen fully. Contact the folks at AG Canada in Kentville they migh be able to help you with some ideas. Good luck

We have been picking our grapes for years just as they are ripening (just showing their classic hints of purple), the fruit is still firm and this way has plenty of pectin for making jelly. It is also early enough to avoid the birds and other animals from stealing the crop.

Here's an idea that might help with the raccoons - an older gentleman advised me to spray around my garden with a weakened solution of household ammonia and then sprinkle the area with ground red pepper - so far its kept the 'coons . squirrels, and rabbits from ravaging my garden !

    Good Luck

Thanks cgtotty , I will give that a try , one of my cousins , who fishes for a living gave me some of his scrap herring nets to cover the vines with , I think I will try your idea first , just a little info . for you , the scrap nets are great for sweet peas and other climbers , made from nylon or monofil . easy to work with
    Thanks again Fitzie
