Hi! I a know nothing about gardening and am trying to help my father out. He would like to plant red candice seedless grapes. His soil is very poor and rocky. He lives in the what we believe is zone 5 of upstate NY. What type of soil does he need to plant his grape vines, or what should he do to prep what little soil he does have???????
Canadice and Einset seedless are both grapes from NYSAES Cornell. They should grow well for you there. Here's website to help you out. http://www.gardening.cornell.edu/factsheets/ecogardening/growgrape.html Cheers
The drainage at our property is awful and also, the soil is full of clay... So, I had dug a large pit, filled it up with a mixture of organic kitchen waste, saw dust, bark mulch, soil, chicken manure and some bone meal....... To avoid root rot, I built wooden containers with no bottom and planted the grapes elevated above the ground level.... The grape growth has surpassed all my expectations.... I hope this experience helps Gardener1
