Hello all, New to the thread, I have been through the forum but couldn't find anything on this topic. Basically I have an 8/9 year old vine in my garden and was wondering if it is possible to remove it and have it replanted in another garden. Its stem which comes out of the ground is quite thick, rougly the size of a man's forearm. Any help/advice in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Rons right. Just make sure to get as much of the roots as possible. Make sure to water it well when you transplant it. The best time is late fall or early spring. Don't be alarmed if it takes a season or two to come back fully. Good luck. Cheers Kim
In a cold area such as Colorado, does fall planting of grape vines provide adquate time to establish a root system? - Millet
Thanks for all the replies guys. Although I am wondering whether should I cut back some of the growth before removing as it has a spread of about 10/15 foot ethier direction. I am in the UK and the weather is cold, but it is still green, so should I wait yet? Millets question is also good.....anyone with an answer? Thanks again!
Hi Archman and everyone, Replanting a grape vine is not ideal, as randall suggested, but it can be done - I have sucsefully replanted 5-year-old vines by using the technique I explained on my blog.
