I think it's a plum - the late blooming one maybe, Prunus salicina or one of its hybrids. Buds are round, petals are not notched at the end, leaves are unfurling instead of unfolding. 'Snofozam' would have very weepy branches.
#286 I forgot to check Ukon:( but for Shirofugen there are really the best time, 9 beautiful trees in circle in front of Watermania There are 3 Kanzan trees on both sides of Shirofugen circle
An anonymous person put a marker on our map for Kanzan at 10251 st edwards dr, and I didn't notice the marker nearby, so asked scouts if someone would photograph what was there. Now I see that Nadia posted 'Kanzan' there last year, in this posting: Richmond (seemingly at the Travelodge and Holiday Inn). In the meantime, Joseph Lin asked Alice, one of his Green Club members, to photograph what is blooming at that address, which is the Sandman Inn, and she sent photos of this 'Ama-no-gawa'. She also saw a sweet cherry and a crab apple tree, which I'd thought might have been mistaken for a 'Kanzan'. Since we already have a marker for the 'Kanzan', I'm going to use the new marker for the Ama-no-gawa'.
Not as impressive at last year (see post #278), but this single 'Whitcomb' on private property at 7091 Livingstone Place South is making an attempt to bloom. It was in glorious full bloom February 20, 2016.
A person who works across from these trees added a marker to VCBF cherry blossom map, a nice 'Akebono' grove at Lang Park, 8211 Saba Road. The park is being renovated, of course during cherry blossom season, but the trees are being kept. From http://www.richmond.ca/__shared/assets/_5_-_Lang_Park_Redevelopment_Concept_Plan39612.pdf:
Well now it's easy to spot the one 'Tai-haku' amongst the hundreds of 'Akebono' at Garry Pt. 'Tai-haku' is blooming, 'Akebono' are past their prime.
That one looks like 'Kanzan'. I've removed this from the map as a 'Pink Perfection' location. No need to put that lone 'Kanzan' tree on the map.
At the residential complex on the southeast corner of Blundell and Gilbert, are at least 30 Kanzan. See MapID 2728.
Seven 'Shirofugen' at 7340 Moffatt Rd. In the courtyard at the back of the property. Well, I'm not sure they are 'Shirofugen'. And there are numerous other cherry trees at the property too, but I cannot identify them at this time. Will have to go back at different time of year. Maybe 'Umineko' Would be a good location for a lesson on identifying cherry trees.
