Here is what I just found out on the internet about Japanese red maple seeds...
just got this link in the mail what people are doing to this world http://gigapica.geenstijl.nl/2009/05/mooi_milieu.html beside trying to grow nice flowers......SAD but so real. been in some of these places although did not see it like that but can say DJAKARTA DAKKA BEGLADESH had the worst PUBLIC not so hidden corners I found it then in the 80s so ugly that it was not worth a photo...
beside a few ...
By the way; as I remember from what I have read, the possibility of getting a red foliage is very low, from the seeds. Most of them will be green and also some "lottary" type of seedlings with different looks etc. That makes more exciting for me.
Oh my goodness Tugo - how exciting! I am very grateful to you, for the seeds.
Thank you too, for the information - and that gorgeous picture of that wonderful little seedling! It sure looks terrific! Very inspiring, indeed!
Yes, but I read last night, if the seeds are taken from a red tree, or when the leaves are red, the seedlings will be red too!
If not, it will be exciting to sprout many seeds and see how many red ones you get! I find it exciting too, Tugo!
Ohhhh, I cannot wait...
Thank you, it was my pleasure.
I am learning all about JM from http://www.botanicalgarden.ubc.ca/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=9 our forum, all details are here and very nice people gave me help, I am grateful to them.
I advise you to read all facts and ect. Will take some days but really all written is very informative and exciting.
Thanks for the great link, Tugo! JM's are so interesting.
In addition to my loquats I have wild/ornamental (no idea which) strawberries and I can cut off some white peony tubers in the fall/winter.
Hello Tugo thank you.
If I do the fridge trick is it the freezer or fridge and how long ? Would be nice to start growing them a.s.a.p and not have to wait one year. to start the growing. I seem to have MANY little seeds there hanging on the tree. Our tree is about 3m across and 2m50 tall like a hutt I think I uploaded the picture earlier. IF the seeds are to rare I don't mind sharing them I cant grow 50 JM :-) ..bye4now.
Hi Vic, if you decide to make the cold trick, just use the least coldest part of your refrigerator, the place where you keep your vegetables.
As you say it is better to wait, till the seeds on your tree are mature and then directly sow them.
You can spare some seeds for Hollyberry Lady, because I have promised her seeds from my tree but at the moment it has only 3 seeds on. Don't know if will come more till october.
Thank you SURE THING I promised her some already no problem. I did not know that they make seeds again in Automn.
Here's what I wanna know:
Do Vicarious1 and Tugo have seeds for the exact same red maple? Or are they both different? What are the differences, if so...
Mine is called Acer Palmatum, Crimson Queen (Because of colour) Dissectum (Because of leaf shape).
Don't know about Vic's. But imo all maples are beautiful.
My concern is, dear Hollyberry Lady, I have promised you seeds, but this time, till now there are only 2 seeds on it :(( May be more will come out. Last year I had many but don't remember when they start showing out. Our elders say "do not ever promise depending on nature". I will wait and learn something new.
But any how I will compensate your seeds, in a way.:))
Not to worry Tugo! You can send me some seeds in the Fall - if you get some. Vicarious1 is sending me some seeds shortly, so it's ok.
Thank you for the information - your tree sounds lovely. I am hoping we can trade at some point, later...
well I don't think there are many different types of JRM ..right mine is the weeping one thats all I can say. You have seen the photo its like a hut :-)
i am interested in yr small melons and big beefsteak tomatoes, live in Philippines, can look for you for passionflower seeds and other rather cold resistant tropicals( have available annona montana seeds, for the moment)
Yes, please let me know when you get some passion flower seeds, and I will gladly trade my melon seeds. If you also might no where to get some dwarf banana seeds as well, I would be very interested...
Hello Ambiorix.. Can I just ask how are Asterix and Obelix doing in the Philipines ? Are they making a new movie in Boracay ?
Your triggered my favorite Childhood Cartoon when I lived in Belgium :-)..Regards..
