I have had an acer palmatum aureum for apx. 5 years, which got very sick 2 years ago. I thought it was verticillium wilt and cut it right back. New shoots have since sprouted, but only one side of the tree has any growth and the bark has disappeared on the other side. Has anyone seen anything like this before and do they know what the cause is? I have since dug it up and placed it in a pot in a more sheltered situation.
