This is a related side to my querry in plant identity called "Vietnamese Basil-like plant Identity Search". The plant mentioned there is again not doing well! This is post is about bad soil... I noticed that tonight, when I watered this unknown plant, many tiny bubbles were present, in a viscous, saliva like film. I have not observed the actual formation of the bubbles; it seems almost as if the bubbles were already there, and just rise to the surface when water is present in sufficent amounts. (The soil is a sloppy mixture of soils I found nearby and a few cheap packaged potting mixtures....) Has anyone ever seen such a thing? Please take a look at the picture... The bubbles seem viscous and gather around anything that touches the water surface. (The picture may look like they formed at the bottom of the plant, but acually they just gathered there.) What is the source of the bubbles? Are they a warning sign of something? I am hesitant about replanting again, but the plant is now showing bowning on the tiny new leaf tips and yelowing and drying out of slightly larger leaves, and it may need to be planted in a "good" soil instead of this foul mess I have it in now. Previously I have had trouble with this plant/this soil in that it was attacked by a white mold like growth twice already. What should I do? Earthling
Re: Soil Foams When Watered! A Picture... New to this list and posting pictures, I tried to upload a pix in the main post but it does not seem to be here so I will try it again. Earthling
It is in a pot. I was worried so I repotted tonight. I do not know anything about soil... I repotted the plant in some farm soil from a nearby farm... and there are still bubbles...suspicious I tested the soil alone and to my surprise, it produces the same bubbles! Since you mentioned it, some of that farm soil was present even before this last repotting. Since the crops grown there seem fine at a distance, I do not think it is a particularly unusual (as in bad) soil... I did a rough pH test with paper strips... it would appear to be about 6 something. Anyone know whats going on? Are such bubbles "known" to be present in some soils? I do not know if it is related, but the soil may used for legumes ("edamame") as well as other summer vegatables. Earthling
