light frost this morning, slight damage to some leaves over the past few days play of sun and shade with a few ice crystals remaining
They do look alright though G, so might be OK. Lovely early morning Spring photos. Is it Sangu Kaku? Edit 1. Sango kaku, not as above. Thanks G.
My spelling gets better and better with age, lol. Quite rightly corrected G. The frosts are getting everywhere in the world it seems. We have more coming in the next few days.
My purple leaved maples seem to be handing the frost better than the two pushing orange leaves. Here's a couple of the better off ones!
Both doing very nicely C, the contrast between the dark reds and orange is so cheerful. Do watch the forecast for Sunday night btw, it's looking a bit worrying!!
Thanks very much D - currently only have these two colours of JMs in the garden, but that may well change! I'm going to make a post shortly asking for some positioning advice for my new one, very excited to get it planted and growing. Hopefully you lovely and experienced people can advise :)
That is wonderful to hear C, you, Kyle and several others on the forum are the future of this wonderful hobby/ passion. I'm really enjoying all the input and enthusiasm. Long may it continue.
Good idea C, the one person who is doing a lot of arranging atm with a new garden and lots and lots of maples is Luke @Luke’s Maples. He has also recently done a YouTube video that you would enjoy. Entitled My maple collection. 'So much enthusiasm '.
Just found the video I think you're referring to - watched the first minute or two (will continue after doing these posts). Looks like a great video and some beautiful trees, and yes the enthusiasm is definitely contagious!!
Acer palmatum 'Ueno Yama' Acer pseudoplatanus 'Brilliantissimum' Acer palmatum 'Kamagata' Acer rubrum 'Vanity'
Ah, I'm jealous of 'Vanity'. Seems like 'Candy Ice' but better! Still a couple of days off from any interesting color on the sycamores, though a few have leafed out (just). Given the weather, not exactly encouraging them. I think "Brigada Revolution" was first out the gate, before the freezes, but doesn't seem to have suffered any damage I can see yet.
I cant believe this is one you don't have E. Im not familiar with 'Candy Ice' but it looks like one I should get more familiarized with. Im jealous of "Brigada Revolution"! Hopefully it will make its way to the US?
I’m interested to see the ‘Vanity’ more. I’ve considered getting one a few times. here’s the few of mine that are in the ground: ‘Palmatifolium’/‘Elmwood’/‘Ikandi
Thats a stunning Elmwood Kyle. How many will add this to their list after seeing your photos!!? I'm looking forward to mine leafing out this Spring, but not just yet, as more frosts forecast.
I checked my maples a few minutes ago and there was no frost last night or snow that was forecast. So I thought I would take a few photos to post. I'm so far behind others from warmer climates, but being patient, as my maples are... Edit 1, Shishigashira, Coral pink, Manyo-No-Sato and Matsukaze. For I @Shin-Deshojo, apologies for not putting the names.
Good morning I, it's Matsukaze. I have just edited my post. Glad you pointed out my mistake in not putting their names.
Good morning D, thank you, I am going to have a look at this one, it does match to the kind of maples I like so far.
Another for the ever growing list I !!? Am busy getting ready to speak to my granddaughters on Zoom atm, so will speak later. D
A 3rd year seedling on a very foggy morning with beautiful condensation on the emerging leaves. The other two pictures are from the end of June last year. It keeps this dark eggplant color all summer long. It is almost iridescent.
