As spring is coming and its time to start getting things ready to grow, I have a few questions about some grasses in my yard. The first is bunny tail grass - does it need to be cut down or just cleaned of dead leaves? Second, I have some helictotrichon grasses and I understand you just clean out the old leaves and it keeps on growing, is this right or does it ever get cut down? what is the best way to clean out the dead leaves? thanks!
Personally, I think grasses look better if you cut (or burn) them all the way back in late winter or early spring, then fertilize as soon as new growth starts. The new year's growth will soon fill out vigorously and everything will look fresh.
