Sorry to hear about your losses E, that Pentaphyllum is rare for a reason eh !! But the rest, going by your photos are really thriving this year, 'gorgeous'. Hope you get your phone sorted soon.
I managed to get up to date on the computer, the phone was working some AI (stoopid) algorithm and combining pictures into some format which was inaccessible. I found and deleted the offenders, so working at least until it happens next time. I love the contrasts you can get with container gardening, and the maples are always the right distance apart! Here are some more from 2 days ago, going backwards. Edit: I forgot to say that the interesting thing about the japonicum flowers is they clearly show the hermaphroditic stage, as the males become females. I'm not sure I've ever caught them doing this on a Section Palmata maple, though it's easy enough to spot on pseudoplatanus where they change twice.
This is from seed, not 100% sure if this one is Japanese, reminds me of some mainland Asian maples... maybe a hybrid? I love this cultivar but do not know the name, received many years ago and turned out to be mis-labeled. (the leaves do not stay in the rolled shape for long) Wou nishiki and First Ghost

After hearing from @irshmerc yesterday about all the rain there in Ireland, I was pleasantly surprised to wake this morning to a wet garden here in Southern England. It was very welcome tbh, as it's been so dry this month. So much for April showers. I think that old saying has gone these days as it's become a very dry month. So a few refreshed maples from me today. Shaina.........Red Wine Corallinum.........Fujinami nishiki Moonrise...........Matsukaze Red Dragon............Westonbirt Red Reticulatum All still very slow to leaf out this year, but on their way now.
No wonder you speak of "April showers" in your sub-arctic countries. The equivalent here would be "giboulées de Mars", showers of rain often mixed with sleet...

Some of mine were moving so fast over Easter I could almost watch the leaves expanding in real time! The frost and cold had really held them back and then suddenly... Boom! A couple of pictures from today, one of the 'Chishio' tribe with 'Beni tsukasa' and 'Katsura'. (It said 'Chishio' on the label but it seems more like 'Chishio Improved' or 'Shin Chishio' or whatever it is called this week...)

But... Hampshire is further down south than Northamptonshire, right ? It should be warmer since it's closer to the sea and the influence of the Gulf Stream : on the opposite side of the Channel, the sea is much colder, believe me, I swam on both sides... ^^
A very good theory Alain, but being just below Winchester, I am in a constant frost pocket. Others on the forum further South and closer to the sea have no such problems. Tbh it is getting noticeably worse.
I see. Micro-climates can be just a few kilometres apart. Once again, some farmers in France - and I suppose elsewhere in Europe+Britain, those cultivating vineyards and orchards in particular, have lost almost their entire production of the season. Others, a few miles away, or with a different exposure lost almost nothing (but they're a minority where the frosts hit hard).
Repotting, and "slip-potting" is almost done for the moment. there are some that I just can't take off the pot, and my son who's living nearby has other concerns at the moment. Or interests. Now, I'll have to move them so I can "do someting" about the "lawn" ^^... And then, find the best place for each of them.
