Some more waking up in my garden a few minutes ago. Satsuki beni..........Beni otake Ueno yama.............Ruslyn in the pink Shigitatsu Sawa.............Beni shigitatsu sawa Brilliantissimum..............Mystic Jewel Have a lovely weekend everyone
Very nice Alain.. Apart from Trompenburg..which I have..the others are at the top of my wish list.. Is Starfish and Peve Starfish the same?
Omg got a new one today “Shu Shidare” my partner picked it out so awesome! So glad he’s fallen in love with the Japanese maples like I have it makes it so much easier. Planning on placing it over a small rock wall we have send more pics tomorrow.
That is a beautiful maple Lisa, and is very important to bring home a healthy tree, that will give an instant impact. So glad to hear you both have an equal interest now.
Thanks so much @Acerholic Im still on the look out for peaches and cream. We went to 4 nurseries today and most were low on stock and what was there Id say 75% was either not yet leafed out (barely buds) or very badly weather damaged. Everyone says it’s been hard to get stock and a few places suffered losses due to some recent cold weather we had.
I cant believe it's been a week since Easter, where does time go !! But we move on and the sun is shining yet again this morning. A bit cooler with quite a breeze. So I hope these came out OK. Olivia....................................................Mikawa yatsubusa Azuma Murasaki................................Mr Sun x2 Brocade..................................................Goshiki shidare Westonbirt Spreading Star................Vitifolium Summer Gold..........................................Yasemin
Trompenburg with flowers and baby samaras Aoyagi, none more green Sango kaku with Magnolia stellata in foreground Tsuma gaki, first spring with this one after my previous one died - and thankfully looks genuine!
Quite a few here taken a couple of weeks back, so a few more have leafed out since then which I'll post soon. My internet is dead so I'm doing it on my phone, hopefully the photos are in this order! Seedlings from a Nomura, which all came out completely different, some interesting ones. Koto no ito. Shishigashira. Autumn moon. Beni Hagoromo. Pixie. Villa Taranto. (Uncle ghost going there instead next spring most likely) Peaches and cream. (New one very young) Summer gold. Komachi Hime. Katsura. (Very slowly becoming a bonsai, needs ground layering this year) Sangu Kaku. Beni Shishenge. Jerre Schwartz. (Showed signs of frost damage, but some new growth now doing the same, so hoping it isn't V wilt!!) Oridono Nishiki. Pung Kil. Osakazuki. Butterfly. Kinshi (leafed out and fell apart, looks a lot like V wilt to me... Taking it back to garden centre as I've only had it a few weeks!) Twombly's Red Sentinel. Jordan.
Ok so this was a great weekend. Planted half my garden and got 2 new Japanese maples and one non Japanese maple. So we have both picked by my partner the Shu Shidare and Crimson Queen. We had to have the crimson queen because it’s the same one his mother had and last week he just sold the family home. Her tree is far too large to plant at our home so we thought this would be a great way to represent her at our place. Any we got a Norway spruce love him. We included the garden beds and azalea for fun. I was terrified I killed the azalea last year when I transplanted it but apparently not!!!
New Crimson Queen Here is a better picture of the unique trunk. However the branches on the topside seem to be very white, almost likes there is a coating it appears to be on some leaves as well. I didn’t notice it all that when at the nursery maybe because my sunglasses were on not sure but do we think it’s diseased or pesticides? ***update*** the nursery Cedar Rim in Langley BC who have been very accommodating and have the healthiest specimens I’ve seen this spring, he explained that they feel the white branches are simply sun bleached as they have no shade year round for their maples and the leaves are just starting to leaf out so the coating is ok, he assured me it’s not diseased and he was the one who helped me load it into my vehicle. So hopefully it’s all good.
Red Cloud. This Japanese maple is new to me I did not have it this time last year. I had it more into the summer months. I’m so amazed at its spring look. It’s so incredible and I’m not typically drawn to this type of leaf style. Continually impressed I had to share again.
@Cattwooduk what an awesome collection thanks for sharing. Totally sucks about your internet so thanks for the extra effort to show us all your lovely collection. So jealous of your peaches and cream I have wanted one for quite some time now. Same with summer gold, I just saw a couple summer gold at two nurseries over the weekend. I may go pick it up before they are out. I love this season!!
Now that's an interesting trunk Lisa !!! And the bleaching does happen on exposed limbs, so I would agree with the nursery. It looks very healthy, so it should be fine.
Well this thread is producing lots of lovely photos and still another 6 weeks of Spring to go. So here is my selection from my garden this morning. Autumn Moon......................Olsen's Frosted Strawberry First Ghost......................Amber Ghost Reticulatum purple.....................Ariadne Sister Ghost...................Grandma Ghost Bit of a ghost morning, but it is the time of year they look their best.
Our internet is out because I was digging a hole in the front garden to plant my big Osakazuki... Apparently the broadband cable goes diagonally across the garden and I put the spade through it! I'll start another thread for suggestions, as my plan became a bit of a puzzle for me!
I I finally managed to find some of these a couple of weeks ago. Very much looking forward to growing them on a bit more before I plant them out into chosen positions. Picked up - Uncle ghost Sister ghost Grandma ghost Baby ghost Amber ghost Kommon Nishiki Chidore Sawa Tiger Rose
It took me a while to find peaches and cream, I ended up with a couple because the first one I was sent was packaged so badly it arrived upside down in the box and only had 2 leaves left. The way the buds had broken off means it's very unlikely to push new growth there. I complained to the nursery and advised putting a stick in the pot so if the box gets turned over the pot doesn't move. They kindly sent me another plant which arrived much happier. Both are pushing new growth... The first plant now has 4 leaves!
