Well it's been a while, but thanks to Daniel and all his hard work, we are back.
So I thought I would kick off the Maples forum for 2023 with my Katsura that has just come into leaf.

Coming right along here in NC!

Viridis, Emperor 1, Crimson queen, Red pygmy (rust color peeking through), Shirasawanum Jordan, Lily pad (tiny), Mikawa yatsabusa, and Tamukeyama (still leafing out) can all be seen in this photo. Technically, Omureyama can also be seen way back there but you'd really have to know where to look.

Do maple trees have leaves? I'd almost forgotten. My trees still have only tight buds and no wonder with nighttime temperatures still dropping so low.

Great to see the forum back again just in time for spring colour!
I started a new job at a private country estate at the beginning of December and have been able to make use of some pretty good facilities we have. The walled kitchen garden has the biggest residential greenhouse in the UK, as well as loads of cold frames. Due to my lack of self control when it comes to buying maples I have run out of space at home (until I eventually get round to reshuffling quite a bit of existing garden structure), but the head gardener is lovely and encouraged me to bring any I wanted to work, so I brought all the 2 year grafts I bought from Hippo last year! Lots of ghost, reticulated and other less common ones leafing out strong and early, so hoping to get a nice long growing season to really bush them out this year.

    Grandma ghost.
    Amber Ghost.
    Reticulatum purple.
    Isobel.
    Baby Ghost.
    Fenna.
    Sister ghost.
    Kamagata.
    Tiger rose.

Glad to see the forum back in action! Thanks Derek for starting this thread.

We've survived a threat of frost here, and now back into more clement weather, with many species of maple in early leaf or flower. I haven't taken many pictures yet, but here are a couple of young seedlings of Acer distylum, some seedlings supposed to be A. pseudoheldreichii, Acer okomatoanum and Acer 'Little Princess'. Also, because I pruned it recently, a picture of the very nice Japanese oak Quercus myrsinifolia. We don't have a Japanese garden per se, but this oak is a great choice for one.

Ryusen : the mother-tree and two seedlings. They all look a bit different, in shape and colour.
I repotted some of those that had a kind of weeping habit last year, and saw this one today. It has interesting hues and more dissected leaves.

That First Ghost looks fine, hope it still hasn't wilted... We may have frost tonight, here's hoping not! Def the stressful season. Alain, really liking the pink one in the 2nd pic. I have a tray full of Ryusen seedlings up already, it will be interesting to see how they perform.

Got around yesterday to take some pics in the sun. They are:

Kotohime x 2, A. monspessulanum x 3, 'Orange Dream' x 2 (the larger they get, the less orange they are), A. tegmentosum, 'Komachi hime', A. pensylvanicum, A. triflorum x 2, A. amplum ssp catalpifolium, A. leucoderme 'Confederate Ghost' first flowers, A. barbinerve, A. elegantulum (prob hybrid), A. platanoides x 2, Acer Pine Bark Group seedling x 2.

I had a quick look round the garden earlier just before sunset. My Shirasawanum Jordan has emerged and I missed the whole thing, I didn't notice it was even starting to push growth the other day!

Amazing the difference between regions! Even though we don't live that far apart, you're really advanced on us, Alain. I got a little 'Como' over the winter, still shut up tight but I can't wait to see it.

Here are more pics from the latest shootaround:

    A. truncatum flowers, AJ 'Vitifolium' flowers, A. coriaceifoium new leaves, 'Princton Gold' flowers', Cowslips!, unnamed variegate leafing out, A. buergerianum, licheny stems of 'Shojo' with Euphorbia, painted Cowslips!, A. rubescens 'Red Flamingo' is really red in all seasons, 'Higasa yama' x3, Acer aff pseudowilsonii from Thailand, A. pseudoplatanus .Nizettii' x 2, the gorgeous A. mandshuricum x 3

In my region we are still firmly in Katsura and hime time. Pics taken today, Murasaki kiyohime, Katsura and Kotohime. The Kotohime is right outside my kitchen window which no doubt makes it earlier, but has been leafing out since February!

Great pics everyone, thanks for sharing!

    A few more :
Trompenburg, Atropurpureum, Emerald Lace, Deshojo, shir. Autumn Moon, and Koto-no-Ito. Very few flowers last year, very many this year.

Ipheion, in French "ail des incas" because of the smell of the crushed leaves, that are edible.

It depends on the species/cv, and some like Tama hime are in a protected spot.

Tama hime, shir. Aureum, Hagoromo nana, pseudosieboldianum ssp. takesimense (with Jerre Schwartz on the left and Deshojo on the right) :

    Happy Easter everyone.
Well it's a much slower start this Spring, just a few leaves here and there compared to the last few years at this time.
So here are some of mine in the lovely bright sunshine this morning.

Red Filigree Lace in a protected location close to the house which seems to make it earlier. The leaves are so delicate when first unfolding...
